About MH SET (Maharashtra State Eligibility Test)
The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH SET) is a state-level examination conducted by Savitribai Phule Pune University. It is conducted on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor in universities and colleges located in the states of Maharashtra and Goa. The MH SET ensures that teaching aspirants meet the academic standards and teaching aptitude required for higher education roles.
Exam Structure
MH SET consists of two papers. Paper I is a general paper on teaching and research aptitude. It includes 50 multiple-choice questions carrying 100 marks and lasts for one hour. Topics in Paper I include reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness. Paper II is based on the subject selected by the candidate and includes 100 multiple-choice questions worth 200 marks. This paper is conducted for two hours. Both papers are compulsory and conducted on the same day in a single session. There is no negative marking in either paper.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for MH SET must have a postgraduate degree from a UGC-recognized institution. General category candidates must have at least 55% marks in their qualifying degree, while candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and transgender must have a minimum of 50% marks. Final-year postgraduate students are also eligible to apply provisionally.
Qualifying Criteria
To qualify for MH SET, candidates in the general category must secure at least 40% aggregate marks in both papers. Reserved category candidates must secure a minimum of 35% aggregate marks in both papers. Candidates who qualify are considered eligible for the post of Assistant Professor within Maharashtra and Goa.
Career Opportunities
Clearing MH SET makes a candidate eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor in various colleges and universities in Maharashtra and Goa. However, it does not provide eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The certificate awarded after qualification is valid for lifetime use in academic appointments within the concerned states.
