What is NSQF?
The National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) is a competency-based framework implemented by the Government of India to organize all qualifications based on a series of levels of knowledge, skills, and aptitude. It integrates vocational education, general education, and technical education in a unified system.
It was officially notified on 27th December 2013 by the Ministry of Finance, under the National Skills Development Policy.
Objectives of NSQF

NSQF Levels and Qualifications
The NSQF is divided into ten levels, where each level is defined in terms of learning outcomes in domains such as process, professional knowledge, professional skill, core skill, and responsibility.
NSQF Level 4 – Certificate
- Duration: 6 Months
- Credits: 30 Credits
- Eligibility: After 10+2
- Focus: Foundation skill training and industry orientation
NSQF Level 5 – Diploma
- Duration: 1 Year
- Credits: 60 Cumulative Credits
- Eligibility: After 10+2
- Focus: Job-oriented skill development
NSQF Level 6 – Advanced Diploma
- Duration: 2 Years
- Credits: 120 Cumulative Credits
- Eligibility: After 10+2 or Diploma
- Focus: Technical skill refinement for specialized job roles
NSQF Level 7 – B.Voc Degree (Bachelor of Vocation)
- Duration: 3 Years
- Credits: 180 Cumulative Credits
- Eligibility: After 10+2
- Focus: Graduation level skill-integrated education with industry focus
NSQF Level 8 – Post Graduate Diploma (P.G. Diploma)
- Duration: 1 Year
- Credits: 60 Credits
- Eligibility: After B.Voc
- Focus: Advanced theoretical and application-based knowledge
NSQF Level 9 – M.Voc Degree (Master of Vocation)
- Duration: 2 Years
- Credits: 120 Credits
- Eligibility: After B.Voc or equivalent
- Focus: High-level technical training with managerial skills
NSQF Level 10 – Research Level
- Focus: M.Phil/Ph.D. or equivalent research work
- Governed by: UGC Regulations, 2016
- Objective: Development of original knowledge and innovation in the field of vocational and academic disciplines
